Restoring the Balance: The Tainted Court
For the past Soul Century, the Soul Society has been mired in conflict, fighting a civil war caused by a divide within the Gotei 13. Tensions over the governance of Soul Society by the Central 46 peaked when a a group of 5 Shinigami were framed as being the cause of a Hollow incursion within the Seireitei. Tensions eventually escalated into pockets of organized violence, and then -unavoidably- into full blown war. During the course of the conflict, two former Captains, of the 12th and 11th Divisions respectively, defected and led a rebellion against the feudal government, draining Soul Society's resources and causing Shinigami presence in the World of the Living to be drastically reduced. The side-effects of this have been coincidentally minor, as the presence of Hollows has been similarly reduced for reasons unknown to the warring factions of the Gotei who remained oblivious.
Recently however the tides of battle have changed, and the Reform Faction has lost more and more of its membership to the Gotei Loyalists more organized use of 2nd Division's stealth tactics and sheer numbers. The war has finally culminated in a large scale battle that saw the Reform Faction decimated and broken. The two Captains fled to the World of the Living with their closest allies, leaving the majority of the Reformists to be summarily executed for treason once the remaining Captains and the Central 46 restored order.
Fill the Void: The Cleansed Castle
Whilst Soul Society has experienced a mere century of strife, Hueco Mundo has endured 10,000 years of feeding frenzies and animalistic conflict, such as the white desert has never seen prior or since. The once proud castle of Las Noches lays ruined, now referred to as the El Dia's Ruins, the secrets of once mighty Arrancar buried in its depths. Now after an Empty Century of silence, one Arrancar rises from the sands to lay claim on all of Hueco Mundo, a new Las Noches built so that he might attract followers and build his great army.
Return to Battle: The Jureichi
While it's sister realms have been embroiled in conflict, the World of the Living has experienced a decade of relative calm, so far as Spiritual matters are concerned. This has not gone unnoticed by the Quincy, nor the former Gotei front known as the Vizor Corporation, who grudgingly coexist in a world where Shinigami and Hollow rarely show their fangs. Recently however, Hollow incursions have begun to increase, focusing in a suburban area west of Tokyo known as Karakura Town. At the same time, humans with Spiritual power are drawn to this town like moths to flame, and the rate at which those born within the city limits develop Spiritual powers themselves is alarmingly high. It has been some thousand years since the last Jureichi appeared, but it seems the lull in activity has caused the world to call out to those souls that can take heed of it. Is this the natural course of the Spiritual World or is something more sinister at work?
